Terms of Service
Last updated July 2026
Sapien is a web-based journal of propless mentalism. By using this site, joining the waitlist, or subscribing once subscriptions open, you agree to these terms.
The service
Sapien publishes written material — effects, essays, interviews, and related work — read entirely on the web. During the prelaunch period the site offers a free sample piece and an email waitlist. When the journal goes live, access to the full catalogue will require a paid subscription billed through Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store your card details.
Your licence to read
Everything published on Sapien is licensed to you personally, for your own study and performance. That licence is real but narrow: it does not include sharing your account, reposting or redistributing articles in any form, scraping or archiving the site, or making the material available to anyone who is not a subscriber. Performance of the effects you learn here is yours; publication of their methods is not.
Accounts and fair use
When subscriptions open, accounts will be limited to a small number of concurrent sessions, and we may throttle or suspend accounts whose reading patterns indicate scraping or redistribution. We would rather never do this; the limits exist to protect the working material of the contributors who trust us with it.
Cancellation and refunds
Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time from the account page, and remain active until the end of the paid period. Statutory refund rights in your jurisdiction are unaffected.
Liability
The site is provided as-is. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from its use or temporary unavailability. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes
We may update these terms as the journal grows. Material changes will be announced by email to subscribers before they take effect.
